Waterproofing
Waterproofing is a barrier that stops water or moisture penetrating concrete elements. It includes bituminous membranes, liquid coatings (polyurethane, acrylic, rubberised bitumen) and cementitious or crystalline systems. The system is chosen by location: roofs, foundations, tanks or wet areas.

Waterproofing: frequently asked questions
What are the most common types of waterproofing?
Bituminous membranes, liquid coatings (polyurethane, acrylic, bitumen), cementitious waterproofing and crystalline waterproofing. Each suits particular locations.
What are the white salts on the wall?
This is efflorescence: moisture moving through the wall carries salts to the surface, where the water evaporates and the salts remain. It signals a moisture problem whose source needs treatment.
Is damp-proof paint enough?
Damp-resistant paints improve appearance for a while but don't treat the water source. The lasting fix is treating the source, then waterproofing.
