Paint quality depends more on wall preparation than on the paint itself: first treat damp and salt sources, then repair cracks, fill with putty and sand, then apply a suitable primer, then the paint coats. Interior paints are chosen by room and washability, exterior paints by exposure to sun and dust. Low-VOC paints can be chosen for enclosed rooms.

Why does paint peel after a short time?
The most common causes are moisture in the wall from a leak or rising damp, painting on an unprepared or dusty surface, skipping the primer, or painting over a weak old coat. Repainting without treating the cause brings the same problem back.
What are the white salts on walls and how are they treated?
They are soluble salts carried by moisture from inside the wall and deposited when water evaporates at the surface. Treatment starts by stopping the moisture source, then removing the salts mechanically and letting the wall dry, then applying a salt-resistant primer before painting.
What is the right sequence between gypsum work and painting?
Gypsum work, suspended ceilings and lighting wiring are done before painting, then putty and sanding, then primer and paint coats. Painting before the other works are finished exposes it to damage and patching.
What are low-VOC paints?
Paints with a lower content of volatile solvents, so their odour is milder and their emissions lower during and after painting. They suit bedrooms, children's rooms and poorly ventilated spaces; check the manufacturer's data for their actual content.
What is the best paint for exterior facades in Saudi Arabia?
Paint that resists UV and heat and holds its colour, such as acrylic or silicone paints made for exterior use, with a suitable primer. More important is treating cracks and water entering the wall before painting.
How many coats of paint does a wall need?
Usually a primer and two finish coats; dark colours or a drastic colour change may need an extra coat. The manufacturer's intervals between coats are followed.
